Another method of alerting is a screen that provides you with an information read out. The last common method is an audio alert that you can hear when a signal is detected.   Sometimes multiple methods are combined to provide a variety of alerts.

Any signal that is sent over the cell phone network itself will set off the doctor. That means any time you access a 4G, 3G, or a similar network.   Data and voice transmitted over any of the major networks will be detected. Depending on the level of technology built into the detector you can get different types of detection.


Some detectors will just tell you that there is a signal in use. While others will tell you how far away that signal is.   And some cell phone detectors will go into enough detail for you to determine what frequency the cell phone is being broadcast on.


When Are Cell Phone Detectors Used?


 There are a number of different uses for cell phone detectors. One of the most common reasons is to detect phone signals in areas where it is illegal to use a phone.


Some higher tier medical facilities for example or on airplanes. Military and law enforcement agencies also have uses for such devices.


One such law enforcement application is to detect illegal use of a cell phone inside a holding facility or jail. Illegal use of cell phones in these areas is a major problem.


You may also want to use these to detect phones in areas such as theatres or test halls where you don’t want people using phones.


Cell phone detectors are primarily used to prevent people from using cell phones where they are prohibited. 


An Important Note About Cell Phone Detectors:


One thing you need to know about cell phone detectors is that they do not read any information from signals that are going back and forth.


They are just a detector. Any attempts to obstruct cell phone signals could be illegal. Many countries have laws against cell phone jammers and similar technology.


There are other devices which operate similarly to a cell phone detector by detecting a wide range of signals. These devices are more complicated to use and often require some level of specialized knowledge and/or training.  


Signal detectors are a relatively new idea when it comes to a compact design specifically targeted towards looking for cell phones.
