What Happens When You Drop Your Phone Too Much?

Our smartphones are precious to us, we take them with us wherever we go and we rely on them to keep us in touch with our friends and family.

However, we all have a tendency to drop our phones from time to time. You should be fully aware of what happens when you drop your phone too much.

What Happens When You Drop Your Phone Too Much?

Most of the major smartphone manufacturers have been focusing on making their phones thinner and more attractive because that’s what the consumer wants.

However, most of these phones are not durable, even the phones that have Corning Gorilla Glass may get damaged if you drop them repeatedly.

In most cases, when someone repeatedly drops their phone it may damage the camera lens, the display screen, the charging socket, or the earphone socket depending on the way the phone falls and what type of surface it falls on.

Does Dropping A Phone Affect The Camera?

What Happens When You Drop Your Phone Too Much

The answer to that question is yes, after a phone has been dropped the camera may lose focus which will result in blurry images.

The camera lens may also be broken which will negatively affect the quality of the photos taken. Let’s face it, nobody wants blurry out of focus photos.

Does Dropping Your Phone Cause Internal Damage?

Dropping your phone can cause internal damage because dropping your phone may cause internal components to collide which may result in a short circuit.

If you dropped your phone but there’s no physical damage on the outside, you may have some internal damage that you can’t see.

Most smartphones today are built to last. However, they were not meant to be dropped and there’s no guarantee that they will work after being dropped.

Does Dropping Your Phone Make It Slower?

Dropping your phone may cause microfractures on some of the internal components in your phone. This will have a negative impact on the overall performance of the phone which could potentially make it slower.

Does Dropping Your Phone Affect The Battery?

No, dropping your phone will not have an adverse effect on the battery or the battery life of your phone.

However, if you would like to protect your phone in the event of an accidental drop, you should consider using a durable phone case, if you don’t have one already.

Use A Durable Shockproof Phone Case To Protect Your Phone:

If you’re worried about accidentally dropping your phone and damaging it, you should get a shockproof Otterbox phone case or an Urban Armor Gear Monarch Case to protect it.

These are inexpensive phone cases that will do a great job protecting your phone from most accidental falls from a reasonable height.

Even though these cases are durable, there have been some reported cases where people accidentally dropped their phones on hard surfaces which resulted in the phone cases being broken but the phones were not.

This is a relatively small investment that will allow you to protect your phone for as long as you have it.

  1. all great info… but for performance issues like laggy Apps and being generally slow, would/could that be from dropping the device? i’m thinking maybe if a fracture on the circuitry is going to happen, it would stop working completely rather than generally causing some overall slowness? no? hardware functionality as you’ve said, camera focussing and lens breakages are a given. i’ve a Note9 that intermittently reboots and/or dismounts the SD card that a factory reset and a new branded SD is failing to rectify these issues that started straight after upgrading to Android 10 via Vodafone contracted handset. april update is talking of a service centre being required also after firmware update fails…. i dropped it a month after upgrading to Android 10 so this story was helping know if i could encourage my carrier to treat as an issue within warranty 😉

    • Hi Dave, there is a possibility that the performance issues may be caused by dropping the phone. The phone may or may not stop working completely after being dropped, it all depends on how much damage was done. It’s worth a shot, you can try to get the problems you’re having taken care of under the warranty.

  2. I dropped my Samsung galaxy A7 2018 phone on the floor and the screen is black. Nothing is broken from the outside and I think it is still working well because I can still hear calls and message notifications, but I can not answer them. When I charge it, I hear the sound, but the screen is black. When I press the side button to see the screen, only the left side of the screen blinks blue and it all goes black again. Is it damaged? Can I do anything at home or it needs a technician? What do you think the problem is?

    • Hello Hoda,

I’m sorry to hear about your phone, but there is most likely some internal damage which is responsible for the problems that you’re experiencing, I would recommend that you take it to a technician.

  3. My iPhone is working fine but it still freezes up sometimes, should I take it to the shops ? And how much would it cost ?

  4. Sir i sleep in a bunk bed and i drop my phone while i sleep in the bed from the top and when i saw it it still working no issue whatsover what do i need to do sir??

  5. HI ,I have a Samsung j core which was dropped there’s no outside crack or damages but mobile doesn’t switch on has little dent on the battery on right corner what could be the possible issue .

    • Hello Ashika,

If you can’t turn on your phone after dropping it, it’s likely that some internal damage occurred as a result of you dropping the phone. You should consider taking it to a technician to diagnose the problem.

  6. I dropped my Iphone 7 and it turns on and works, but when i click my app the scratches get in the way and affect the touch screen. What should I do?

  7. I dropped my Iphone 7+ and it did not turn on. When I tried charging it, the apple logo comes on the screen and then starts flickering but if it’s not in charge, it does not turn on. What should I do ?

  8. Hello sir, i dropped my samsung a20s from my chest level to the floor, after that, the phone still works but the internal sound had some issues i cannot hear from it but i can hear with earphones and speakers.. can i do something about it or it needs a technician? what should i do? im literally sobbing coz my parents gonna scold me?

    • Hello Einz,

Some internal damage occurred as a result of you dropping the phone, this may have been prevented if you had a good phone case. You should take the phone to a technician to have it fixed or get a new phone.

  9. I dropped my phone(huawei Nova 3I) on the floor by accident, and the moment i pick it up the top half of the screen is black with green lines while the bottom still has my screen but its too fuzzy and i cant do anything. As i have fixed this phone a couple of times before and this is the first time i dropped it since my recent repair, i just wanted to know if constant repairs on the phone make its durability and will this affect the process of repairs. Thanks in advance!

    • Hello Tom,

I’m not sure I understand your question, are you asking me if constant repairs on a phone make it more durable? If that’s what you’re asking, the answer is no, to make the phone more durable it must have a good phone case and a screen protector.

  10. Hi, I dropped my phone with my screen facing downwards to the ground and there wasn’t any crack except a few scratches on my screen protector, no sign of unusual issues from the problems you stated above, everything works fine. What I want to know is, does the screen protector absorb the shock wave maybe that was the reason nothing happen to my phone or or there could be some small internal damage that could not be seen yet and the small internal damage might happen in the future?

    • Hi I’m the guy earlier name Richard just commented few minutes ago and I left something that I want to add which is actually I dropped my phone about 4 feet and it was loud, literally and when it was dropped and added that my phone is a huge phone with its weight it create more shock wave with it but I have screen protector left on. So let me know whether my phone could have any hidden internal problems that might happen in the future that isn’t showing any signs of issue that you stated above.

      • Hello Richard,

Some screen protectors have the ability to absorb the shock in the event of an accidental drop. You said the phone fell from about 4 feet, but did it fall on grass, wood, or concrete? You should use the phone for a few days and try to figure out if you notice anything different since you dropped it.

You should shoot some photos and videos with the cameras to make sure that they’re still working, and listen to some music to make sure the speakers are working. You should spend some quality time using the phone and if everything seems to be working fine, I think it’s highly unlikely that you will experience any problems from this in the future.
