As smartphone technology continues to expand, people continue to find new ways to use smartphones. Have you ever thought about using your smartphone as a remote control for your TV? In this blog post, I will tell you about some of the best TV remote control apps for Android and iOS that you can use.
Each and every television receiver is different, all of them do not have the ability to talk to our smartphones as easily as we would like them to.
Your smartphone’s ability or inability to communicate with your TV depends on what type of smartphone you have as well as the type of streaming device that you use.
For example, there are many TV remote apps that can interact with Wi-Fi connected smart TVs from different manufacturers.
However, some of the older TVs do not have the network capabilities to do this. To use one of these older TVs you will need a phone which has an IR blaster, or a Wi-Fi to IR converter.
If you have an iPhone, you’re out of luck, because there are no iPhones with IR blasters.
If you have a relatively new TV which you purchased within the last few years. There’s a strong possibility that it has its own first-party app on the Google Play Store.
This applies to most of the major TV manufacturers which include Panasonic, LG, Sony, Samsung, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, as well as a variety of Roku set-top boxes.
So the information I provide in this blog post will apply to general TV remote apps that were designed to work with a variety of devices from various manufacturers.
Some of these apps will also give you the ability to control other things in your home such as lighting and air conditioning.
If none of these apps are compatible with your TV, you may be better of using your TV’s associated app. Here are some of my favorite TV remote apps that are available on Android and iOS.
TV Remote Control Apps For Android And iOS:
As a result of a recent update, the features and functionalities of Sure have been enhanced. One of the most unique features of Sure that sets it apart from the competition is its ability to control hardware, media streaming hardware.
For example, you can use Sure to send pictures, music, and videos to a Chromecast using an iPhone. Another great feature that Sure possesses is its ability to backup your files.
As a result of this, you will not have to reconfigure the settings in your devices at home when you purchase a new phone. If you would like to use Sure with older hardware you must get a Wi-Fi to IR converter to use it.
The Mi Remote app was made by Xiaomi, the user interface has a nice look and feel to it and it’s very user-friendly.
When you open the app for the very first time it will give you the ability to automatically scan for supported devices and it will guide you through the entire setup process.
The app will also let you know whether or not your phone has IR capabilities. Even though Mi Remote is available on all Android phones.
Xiaomi’s proprietary phones will get the most out of this app because many of their latest phones come equipped with IR blasters.
If you are using a Xiaomi phone, you will have the ability to link certain remotes to specific locations. So the remote will automatically appear on your locked display screen depending on whether you are at home or at work.
AnyMote is very similar to Peel, this app has the ability to power all your smart devices and it gives you the ability to set tasks called Macros.
Macros are chain commands which you can simultaneously send to multiple devices. For example, if you are getting ready to watch a movie, you can trigger one of your saved Macros to launch an app, turn your TV on, dim your lights, and change the channel simultaneously.
If you have an Android phone that’s IR enabled, there is a separate AnyMote app for this called Smart IR Remote. If you use Amazon Echo, you can ask Alexa to initiate your commands through AnyMote.
Peel is one of the most popular TV remote control apps that’s currently on the market. Peel can work on your local network but it can also work on your old-fashioned IR as well.
So if you have an Android phone that has an IR blaster, it will be extremely compatible, regardless of what type of TV or home entertainment system that you may have.
If you have an iPhone or an Android phone that does not have an IR blaster. You can purchase an IR extender from Peel called Pronto for $50.
Pronto will give your phone the IR capabilities that it needs to be able to interact with your TV. With this app, you will also have the ability to control your smart home devices.
When you start using Peel it will monitor your viewing habits, then it will show you recommendations based on your viewing habits.
This concludes my list of TV remote control apps for Android and iOS. If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to share them in the comment section below.
