Samsung Galaxy S9 Review – A Phone That’s Been Refined

663

The Samsung Galaxy S9 (Galaxy S9) is a refined version of the Samsung Galaxy S8 (Galaxy S8) from 2017. Most of the hardware and the design are almost identical between the two phones.

However, there’s the software, the camera, and some new features you will find in the Galaxy S9 that makes it superior to its predecessor.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Introduction:

The Galaxy S9 has a dual camera setup with a dual-aperture shutter this is innovative. Will other smartphone manufacturers adopt the dual-aperture shutter in the near future? Only time will tell.

The fingerprint scanner and the facial recognition feature on the Galaxy S9 have been improved. The display screen is brighter and the speakers have also been improved.

The Galaxy S9 has stereo speakers which were tuned by AKG and enhanced with Dolby Atmos. The sound quality on this phone has been significantly improved as a result of this.

These are the major differences between the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S8. The Galaxy S9 is obviously more expensive than its predecessor.

But if you have an older phone and you’re due for an upgrade should you buy the more expensive Galaxy S9 or the Galaxy S8? In this in-depth blog post, I will answer that question.

Design:

The design of the Galaxy S9 is very similar to that of its predecessor but there are a few differences. Both phones are made of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and aluminum. However, the aluminum used on the Galaxy S9 is more durable.

At the back of the Galaxy S9, the placement of the fingerprint scanner has been changed. The fingerprint scanner on the Galaxy S9 is now located directly below the primary camera.

It’s much easier to access the fingerprint scanner on the Galaxy S9 than it is on the Galaxy S8 where the scanner is located to the right of the camera.

The Galaxy S9 has retained the headphone jack because there are many smartphone users who will appreciate this. This phone is also IP68-certified which means that it can be submerged in 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes.

The Galaxy S9 has four different color variants these include: lilac purple, midnight black, coral blue, and titanium gray.

The phone has a nice look and feel to it, however, the back panel has a tendency to collect lots of fingerprints.

Display Screen:

The display screen on the Galaxy S9 is a 5.8 inch Super AMOLED display screen with a resolution of 2960×1440 pixels with 568 ppi.

The brightness, clarity, and color reproduction is excellent on this display screen. The picture quality when viewing images on this display screen is second to none, the colors look extremely natural.

The display screen on this phone is brighter than that of its predecessor. If you’re unhappy with the way the display screen looks and you would like to make it brighter or darker.

You can go to the settings menu and select a different color mode. You will have the ability to modify the settings to make the display screen look the way you would like it to.

When you start using the phone the Galaxy S9 will learn your brightness preferences. It will remember when you brighten or dim the display screen in certain conditions.

Then it will automatically modify the settings for you in similar situations, this is a great feature that the user will appreciate.

The Galaxy S9 does not support Dolby Vision but the Dolby Atmos audio is supported. This phone has also been certified for use with Mobile HDR Premium content.

The display screen on the Galaxy S9 is an attractive display screen that provides a great user experience.

    This review was very helpful!

I currently have the Samsung Galaxy J7, which is a nice phone but nothing like the Galaxy S9. I’ve been spending a lot more time on my phone, so I can warrant an upgrade.

One of the features I am most interested in is the slow motion video capture. I’d like to do under water filming. Do you know if this phone is waterproof or would I need to purchase a special case.

Thanks again for the great review. This looks like an awesome phone.

Thanks kmv, the Galaxy S9 is a great phone and it’s water resistant but only up to 1.5 meters if you go any deeper it may have an adverse effect on the phone.

Good review. Very informative. I must say your format us a little strange to me; the way the review is structured, like which topics are addressed, in which order, and thoroughness, and such. But this is not a large issue. Overall, do you think its worth the extra money for the s9 over the s8?

Thanks Jason, if you have a phone that’s two or three years old and you would like to buy a new phone then the Galaxy S9 would be a great fit. But if you have the Galaxy S8, I would not recommend upgrading to the Galaxy S9.
