Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus Introduction:

This new Samsung phone has a similar look and feel to that of its predecessor from last year the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus (Galaxy S8 Plus).

Samsung has been doing a great job with the release of their premium phones. They have developed a reputation for being bold and innovative, I think this is something that has attracted many smartphone users to the Samsung brand.

Even though the Galaxy S9 Plus is a great phone it’s lacking the level of technological advancement that we’ve seen in the past from the predecessor (Galaxy S8 Plus) to the successor (Galaxy S9 Plus).

The main selling point for this phone is the big 6.2-inch display screen and the amazing cameras that it possesses. What distinguishes the primary camera on this phone from the other smartphones on the market is the dual-aperture shutter.

The Galaxy S9 Plus and its smaller sibling the Galaxy S9 are the first phones to feature a dual-aperture shutter. One of the apertures were made to enhance the quality of the photos that are taken in low light conditions.

As a result of this, the Galaxy S9 Plus does a great job when taking photos in low light conditions. As a result of the dual camera setup, the Galaxy S9 Plus has the same telephoto capabilities as the Galaxy Note 8 from last year.

The primary camera on the Galaxy S9 Plus can record super-slow-motion video at 960 frames per second (fps).

The Galaxy S8 is a great phone. However, when it was released last year Samsung received quite a bit of negative feedback regarding the placement of the fingerprint scanner.

The fingerprint scanner was located to the right of the primary camera at the back of the phone. It seems as though Samsung listened to the negative feedback and they moved the fingerprint scanner directly below the primary camera on the Galaxy S9 Plus.

This was a great decision on Samsung’s part because it’s much easier to reach the fingerprint scanner on this phone when holding the phone in a natural position.

The Galaxy S9 Plus has stereo speakers which provide a better listening experience in comparison to that of its predecessor.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus Display Screen:

The Galaxy S9 Plus has a 6.2-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED curved display screen. As I stated earlier the size of the bezels on the top and bottom of the display screen are smaller.

As a result of this, the display screen occupies 90% of the front of the phone. The display screen is tall, it has an aspect ratio of 18.5:9.

This is a bit taller and more narrow than the standard 16:9 aspect ratio that you will find on many other smartphones.

Even though this display screen can display Quad HD resolution, the default setting is Full HD 1080. However, the display screen looks great.

The rich and vibrant colors in conjunction with the attractive display screen with the curved edges will guarantee a great user experience.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus Design:

The design of the Galaxy S9 Plus is very similar to that of its predecessor. However, there are a few small changes the Galaxy S9 Plus has stereo speakers and the fingerprint scanner has been relocated.

The Galaxy S9 Plus is an attractive phone it’s made primarily of aluminum and glass. The aluminum on this phone has been upgraded, it’s more durable than that of the Aluminum in the Galaxy S8 Plus.

The display screen is 20% thicker than that of the Galaxy S8 Plus. Hopefully, this will make the Galaxy S9 Plus a more durable phone than its predecessors.

The Galaxy S9 Plus is available in four colors Coral Blue, Lilac Purple, and Midnight Black are available in the US, Europe, and the UK. There’s a Titanium Grey Hue which is available in other countries.

The back panel of the phone has a tendency to collect lots of fingerprints. So you will have to clean the back panel regularly when using the phone or get a case for it.

The dimensions have been slightly modified in an effort to reduce the size of the bezels at the top and bottom of the phone. As a result of this, the Galaxy S9 Plus is slightly shorter than the Galaxy S8 Plus.

However, the Galaxy S9 Plus is still a big phone which was designed to be used by someone with big hands. If you don’t have big hands it may be a bit difficult to hold this phone in one hand and use it comfortably.

The Galaxy S9 Plus comes equipped with a microSD card slot which will allow you to expand the storage capacity of the phone up to 400GB.

The phone also comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack this is something that many of the major smartphone manufacturers have been slowly phasing out.

The Bixby button is still located on the left side of the phone directly below the volume rocker. The problem with this is, you may accidentally hit the Bixby button when trying to adjust the volume.

Samsung’s AR Emoji:

The Samsung AR Emoji on the Galaxy S9 Plus is a direct response to Apple’s Animoji. The AR Emoji uses the 8MP selfie camera to analyze a 2D image of someone and convert it into a 3D avatar.

This feature works by mimicking the facial expressions of the subject onto an avatar which can be customized. You can change the skin color, the gender, and the hairstyle of the AR Emoji.

The end result of the AR Emoji is not comparable to the Apple Animoji which is produced by its TrueDepth camera. Part of the problem is the fact that the AR Emoji should resemble the person, but it doesn’t.

  1. Ok, this is one of the coolest product reviews I have come across. Man, you read my mind as if though. I was actually going through the process of getting one of those on contract.

Thanks to you now I know a lot of features I never knew existed before now.

What would you say if asked to compare the Galaxy S9 latest with the new iPhone as well?

    • Thanks Richard, I like both phones, they have their strengths and weaknesses. For example the Galaxy S9 has a better display screen while the iPhone X has a more secure user authentication system. The Galaxy S9 has a fingerprint sensor and a headphone jack but the iPhone X does not. They are both great phones which one you choose depends on what platform you prefer, some people prefer Android, some people prefer Apple.

  2. Awesome review. I still have Samsung S7 Edge and I think I’ll wait for a few more generations of Samsung for me to make the change haha.

Although I do like the display size of the phone, I’m a sucker for big screens!

I really don’t understand the hype behind AR Emoji. Is it a pointless feature for most phones these days?

    • The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is a great phone, you should continue to use it until you’re no longer happy with it. I think Samsung needs to work on the AR Emoji a bit more. Samsung Galaxy users may appreciate the AR Emoji more if Samsung can get it to look like the person.

  3. Samsung galaxy s9 is a big phone. I love big phones because I often watch movies and play video games on my phone. I enjoy the big screen quality.

The old samsung had a horrible finger print sensor placement, which is right next to the camera. It is very confusing. It is good that they changed the location now so that it is easier to find it.

I have to admit that samsung phones does a really good job for their cameras. There is an old saying that if you want a good phone with a good camera, Samsung phones are the most beautiful choice you can make.
