Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus Review – What A Powerful Phone

Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus Software And User Interface:

The software on the Galaxy S8 Plus has been refined and it’s extremely well optimized. This phone has retained a few of the great features from its predecessor.

Some of these features are, the Always-On display showing notifications and showing the date and time even when the phone is asleep. This is a great feature that works so efficiently that it does not have a noticeable effect on the battery life.

The split-screen applications have also been retained and they work great. When you capture a screenshot there’s an automatic sharing and editing feature that’s conveniently built into the pop-up.

Whether you’re on a locked screen or the home screen, you will be able to access the notifications drop-down menu. From the home screen, there’s a set of quick settings shortcuts that have multiple swipeable screens that you can customize.

With the release of every smartphone, Samsung continues to push the envelope, they continue to expand upon the features and functionalities.

The Galaxy S8 Plus settings are extensive, however, the user interface is not cluttered, it’s extremely clean and well organized.

If you’re looking for something but you’re having a hard time finding it you will notice that Samsung has added some prompts at the bottom of the menu that will help you to find what you’re looking for.

The Samsung user interface can be customized via the themes, Samsung has their own theme store embedded in the Bixby application.

Upon releasing the Galaxy S phones Samsung stated that all Bixby functionality, except the Voice Assistant, will be available at launch. Bixby Voice will be available in Korea and the U.S. English later this spring, and they will expand to more languages globally over time.

Bixby can be accessed via the Bixby button which is located at the left edge of the phone directly below the volume rocker. You can also access Bixby by swiping from the left to the right of the home screen.

Until the Bixby Voice Assistant becomes available you can opt for the Google Assistant which comes pre-loaded on the phone and it can be accessed via a long press of the Home key.

Bixby Vision is supposed to analyze whatever is being shown through the camera’s viewfinder. After the object is analyzed the application will give you information about the object that it is focused on and whether or not you can buy it.

Sometimes this feature works and sometimes it doesn’t, it’s a bit disappointing. At the moment, the Bixby feature without the voice isn’t very useful, however, Samsung says that it will be able to understand things contextually in the future.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus Camera:

Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus Camera

The camera on the Galaxy S8 Plus is exactly the same camera we saw on the Galaxy S7 Edge and the Galaxy S8.

The primary camera is a 12-megapixel sensor with an f/1.7 aperture with Dual Pixels. Even though the camera on the Galaxy S8 Plus may be the same camera we saw on its predecessor last year.

The Galaxy S8 Plus takes better photos, and I’ll tell you why. The software and the sensor have been upgraded. Every time you press the shutter button to take a picture, the multi-frame image processor takes three pictures.

Two of these pictures will be used to eliminate blur and reduce noise. The end result will produce an absolutely amazing photo with rich, vibrant colors.

The camera comes equipped with an extremely fast dual-pixel autofocus along with image stabilization.

There’s a new auto-HDR mode which will decrease exposure and contrast in brighter conditions. So whether or not you’re in a well-lit setting, this camera has the ability to adapt and take great photos.

The selfie camera is an 8-megapixel camera which is also great. Just like the primary camera this camera has an f/1.7 aperture and autofocus.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus Battery Life:

The main differences between the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus are the size of the phone and the size of the battery.

The Galaxy S8 comes with a 3000mAh battery which powers a 5.8-inch display screen. While the Galaxy S8 Plus comes with a 3500mAh battery which powers a 6.2-inch display screen.

Even though the battery in the Galaxy S8 Plus is bigger, the battery life is about the same as that of its smaller sibling.

The battery will last for about one full day of moderate use, however, the Galaxy S8 Plus comes with fast charging via USB-C so you can fully charge the phone in about 1.5 hours.

The Galaxy S8 Plus also comes with wireless charging technology but it will take an additional 30 minutes to charge when using this method.

My Final Thought:

New Samsung phones are continuing to improve. The Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus is a high-quality premium smartphone that performs very well.

This phone has more features and functionalities than the average smartphone user will probably use. It has its pros and cons like any other smartphone on the market but the pros outweigh the cons. You can see the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus on eBay.

  1. Hey Marvin,
This Samsung Galaxy s8 plus is is very eye catching looking at the design. I personally use Samsung phones and I like their smart phones especially because of the their picture quality. They have a very vivid display compared to other competitors on the market.

I currently use their Galaxy s4 which have served me well for sometime. The only problem I have with it is that it get hot especially when i turn on the data.I don’t no if this s8 plus also does the same.

But looking the design alone attract me. And I think I will consider it to be my next choice.

    thanks for this informative review.

    • Hi Stephen, I agree with you 100{4e00ece13e2b02890f5a6026c7361cc7def9c5809a46332fda610a80d11c2762}, I think the display screen and the picture quality on a Samsung smartphone is second to none.

  2. Very detailed review and I have a good idea of what to expect from the next phone from Samsung’s S line, I do have one question and you get it a lot but would you recommend upgrading to this from an S7 edge or would you think it makes more sense to wait for the new S9 or perhaps even the new note 8?

  3. Galaxy phones that I had in the past did have an issue with getting hot for some reason. But, the camera is amazing. Do you know if the camera comes with certain special effects? I have been looking to purchase a phone with a great camera to improve the quality of my pictures for my blog.

    • Hi Liz, at the moment the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus has the best camera you can get on a smartphone. As for special features on the camera, there’s Bixby Vision, it’s a hit or miss because sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Bixby Vision is supposed to analyze whatever is being shown through the viewfinder on the camera and give you specific information about it. I wrote about the Bixby Vision in my review of the Galaxy S8

  4. Thanks Kyle, the Galaxy S7 Edge is a great phone if you’re still happy with it then there’s no need to upgrade.

  5. The Samsung S8 is an amazing phone if it’s in your budget because it’s not cheap even with a contract. My iphone contract has come to end, it’s all I’ve ever used so for a while I’ve been on the search what to buy because I wanted something different. I looked at the Samsung S8, but when a fab deal came up for a Sony Xperia XZ Premium, I snapped it up quickly. I had to preorder so I don’t have it yet. I would have opted for the Samsung S8 if I hadn’t have seen that brilliant offer.

    • Sharon, the Galaxy S8 Plus is an amazing phone and what you pay for is what you get, if you go to a smartphone dealer to try the Galaxy S8 Plus you will understand why it’s so expensive. Good luck with your Sony Xperia XZ.

  6. Sounds like a great phone. I like the fact that the camera takes three pictures for each shot and calibrates an optimal photo. I also like the HD camera and extended battery life. Do you know if the Galaxy S8 is waterproof?
Does ebay offer the best price on this phone?

    • Hi Mitch, the Galaxy S8 is waterproof it can be submerged into 1m of water for roughly 30 minutes and yes ebay is the best place to buy it.
