The Samsung Galaxy J2 and Samsung Galaxy J Max were launched yesterday in India. The Galaxy J2 has a glowing notification ring around the camera this is a new feature called Smart Glow. Samsung said that this is a fully customizable LED notification light that will work for priority notifications.

At a press release in India yesterday a Samsung official made the following statement – “While up to four alerts can be set, consumers can create and choose their own color for the Smart Glow.

It also alerts a user if they are running low on battery, internal memory, or mobile data. Users can also use the Smart Glow LED ring to position the rear camera for higher mega-pixel selfies with the Selfie Assist feature.”

Smart Glow seems like a great feature however, I won’t know for sure until I get the opportunity to use the phone. Here are some of the Specs for the Galaxy J2:

  • 5-inch HD Super AMOLED display
  • Spreadtrum SC8830 quad-core 1.5GHz processor
  • 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot
  • 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, 5-megapixel front-facing camera
  • 2,600 mAh battery
  • Android Marshmallow Operating System

The Galaxy J2 looks good on paper, hopefully it will not disappoint us.

Samsung Galaxy J Max:

The Galaxy J Max comes with a 7-inch WXGA display screen, this may be a bit too big for the average person to hold it and use it in one hand.

However, there are many people who will enjoy having a phone with a 7-inch display screen. Here are the specs for the Galaxy J Max:

  • Spreadtrum SC8830 quad-core 1.5GHz processor
  • 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot
  • 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera
  • 4,000 mAh battery
  • 5.1 Android Lollipop

The Galaxy J Max has a big display screen, lots of RAM, and a big battery. However, it runs the Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system this is a bit outdated, I think it was poor judgment on the part of Samsung to release a new phone with an outdated operating system.

The Samsung J2 and J Max are currently available in India however, they will also be sold online later this month. The J2 will cost $145 and the J Max will cost $199.

  2. Hey Marvin,
This is your third review that I’m reading and I must say that you’re doing a great job. You provide us very good and summarized reviews about innovative cellphones. I’m wondering what is the reason that Samsung decided to launch those two phones in India first. Do you know the reason?
