Rumor has it that Google will be releasing a mid-range phone called the Pixel 3 Lite later this year. A recent report from Nikkei Asian Review claims that Google is currently planning an “aggressive push into hardware” in 2019.
Apple has been struggling to expand into some developing markets and Google plans to capitalize on this with a mid-range Pixel phone.
A recent report in 9to5 Google states that most of this isn’t unexpected because we have already seen some photo and video leaks of the Pixel 3 Lite.
According to recent rumors, the Pixel 3 Lite is expected to have a 5.6-inch IPS display screen, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a midrange Snapdragon 670 processor, and a plastic case.
Nikkei stated that the phone will cost less than Apple’s cheapest iPhone, which is the iPhone XR which costs $749.
An earlier report from Android Police from late last year stated that the Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL lite will likely launch on the Verizon network this Spring.
According to Nikkei, in addition to the phones, Google will also release a new version of the Google Home smart speaker, with a new security camera, and a smartwatch this year to compete with Apple.
It seems as though Google has quite a bit in store for us this year. The prices of premium smartphones have been increasing every year and many smartphone users aren’t willing to pay a hefty price tag in 2019 for a premium smartphone.
So I think it’s great that Google will be releasing the Pixel 3 Lite because a great mid-range smartphone will appeal to many smartphone users in 2019.
