OnePlus 7 Pro Review

OnePlus 7 Pro

4.7
Battery Life 5.0
Camera 4.5
Software 5.0
Hardware 4.5
Performance 4.5

Pros

  • Big, beautiful display screen
  • Very fast and responsive
  • Pop-Up selfie camera is innovative

Cons

  • No wireless charging

The OnePlus 7 Pro has an unblemished all-screen display screen and a pop-up selfie camera.

This is the latest Android phone from OnePlus which aims to outperform its competition.

This phone has premium features and power but it’s sold at a more affordable price than that of its competition.

The OnePlus 7 Pro comes with an attractive 6.67-inch display screen, there are no bezels on this display screen.

The display screen has a 90HZ refresh rate which allows a more responsive and fluid gaming experience and scrolling experience.

The display screen has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio so it’s thin and tall. If you have small hands it may be a bit difficult for you to reach the corners of the display screen.

There is a second-generation fingerprint sensor that has been built into the display screen.

The fingerprint sensor is very fast and responsive, inside the phone you will find Qualcomm’s latest processor the Snapdragon 855 chipset, 256GB of internal storage, and 12GB of RAM, the phone is powered by a 4,000mAh battery.

Located at the back of the phone there is a triple camera setup which consists of a 48MP camera, a 3x telephoto camera, and an ultra-wide camera.

There is a low-light ready Nightscape mode which will help you to take better photos in a darker setting.

The picture quality of the photos taken with this phone is good but it’s not as good as the Huawei P30 Pro or the Google Pixel 3.

If you’re looking for the best camera phone on the market you should not get this phone.

Some Great Features That The OnePlus 7 Pro Lacks:

  • A MicroSD card slot
  • Wireless charging
  • 3.5mm headphone jack

Nevertheless, I think the OnePlus 7 Pro is one of the best phones on the market, it has a new stereo speaker system and it has fast charging.

The OnePlus 7 Pro is more expensive than that of its predecessors as a result of this, it’s not considered a mid-range phone, it’s a premium phone.

OnePlus 7 Pro Variants:

There are three variants of the phone, there’s the 128GB variant which has 6GB of RAM. The 256GB variant which has 8GB of RAM and the 256GB variant which has 12GB of RAM.

The phone is available in Black, Blue, and Almond. There’s a more premium version of this phone but it’s only available for people in Europe.

This phone is the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G which has extremely fast internet speeds.

OnePlus 7 Pro Display Screen:

The main selling point for this phone is the display screen, it has an immersive 6.67-inch display screen with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9.

This is a tall display screen it may be a bit difficult for someone with small hands to use this phone.

The display screen has HDR10+ and 90Hz refresh rate which will enhance the gaming experience and it also enhances the scrolling experience.

The OnePlus 7 Pro is the first all-screen phone, it’s an all screen phone because it has no bezels, no punch-hones, and no notch.

The pop-up selfie camera is not part of the display screen, I think this was a great decision on the part of OnePlus.

OnePlus refers to the display screen as “Fluid AMOLED” most phones on the market have a refresh rate of 60Hz.

However, OnePlus wanted to enhance the user experience so they increased the refresh rate to 90Hz, this provides a smoother more responsive experience when playing video games or watching videos.

It also enhances the experience when scrolling web pages, the web pages have a nicer look and feel to them as a result of the 90Hz refresh rate.

This is a great thing that I would like to see other smartphone manufacturers adopt in the near future.

OnePlus 7 Pro Design:

The OnePlus 7 Pro has the look and feel of a premium Samsung phone due to the curved edges that it possesses.

However, this phone does not have an IP water resistance rating and it does not have a microSD card slot.

Nevertheless, the in-screen fingerprint sensor is faster and more responsive than that of its predecessor the OnePlus 6T.

The color of the phone will vary depending on the amount of internal storage/RAM that it has.

Located on the right edge of the phone is a psychical alert slider which can be used to mute the phone.

The Google Assistant can be accessed via the shortcut in the lower left corner of the locked screen.

It would have been nice if this phone had wireless charging because it’s a convenient feature that many smartphone users appreciate.

OnePlus 7 Pro Cameras:

Pop-Up Selfie Camera:

The selfie camera on the OnePlus 7 Pro is a mechanical pop-up camera. The quality of photos taken with this camera are good but they’re not the best.

The great thing about the pop-up camera is the fact that it doesn’t occupy any space on the display screen.

This may be the beginning of a trend that other smartphone manufacturers may follow in the near future.

The camera will automatically pop-up when the camera app is active and in selfie mode.

One of the great things about this feature is if you accidentally the phone after the pop-up camera has been deployed it will retreat back to its shell while the phone is in freefall.

This reduces the chance of the pop-up camera being destroyed via an accidental drop.

Triple Camera Setup:

The triple camera setup located at the back of the phone consists of a primary 48MP camera, a 16MP ultra-wide camera, and an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.

The picture quality from the triple camera setup on the OnePlus 7 Pro has been improved from that of its predecessor.

The 48MP camera has an f/1.6 aperture which produces warmer colors and more textures than the OnePlus 6T from last year.

The cameras on the OnePlus 7Pro do not perform as well in a darker setting, the color reproduction isn’t the best.

The colors have a tendency to look at bit unnatural in comparison to some of the best phones on the market.

The Night Sight mode has been retained and it’s been improved.

However, when taking photos in this mode if your hand shakes even a little bit this will negatively impact the quality of the photo.

For best results when taking photos in Night Sight mode you should consider using a tripod.

The 8MP telephoto camera offers 3x optical zoom with optical image stabilization.

When taking photos, this camera will get you closer to the subject without distorting the photo.

The 16MP ultra-wide camera has a 117-degree field of view, this camera will come in handy when taking landscape photos.

The cameras on the OnePlus 7 Pro are good but they’re not the best cameras on the market.

OnePlus 7 Pro Software:

The OnePlus 7 Pro runs on the latest Android operating system Android 9.0 Pie, this works in conjunction with Oxygen OS this is OnePlus’s software skin.

A new feature that has been added to the OnePlus 7 Pro software suite is a built-in screen recorder.

This feature gives you the ability to capture whatever is happening on your display screen.

With this feature, you have the ability to record internal or external audio, you can also create a video tutorial.

There is an Extended Screenshot tool which gives you the ability to capture full-length screenshots. This feature works well for capturing screenshots of long web pages.

Scrolling a long web page is extremely fluid and seamless due to the 90Hz refresh rate that this phone possesses.

Zen Mode is a new mode which encourages you to put down your phone more often. When you enter this mode, it restricts your phone usage for 20 minutes.

When Zen Mode is enabled you will still have the ability to make and receive phone calls.

However, you will not have access to social media and you will not be able to send or receive text messages.

The OnePlus 7 Pro is close to stock Android, there are a few things that have been added but overall it’s extremely user-friendly.

OnePlus has a reputation for quickly updating their phones to the newest version of Android.

OnePlus 7 Pro Battery:

The OnePlus 7 Pro is powered by a massive 4,000mAh battery. The battery will last for roughly 1.5 days of moderate use.

The fast charging technology on this phone is incredible. When charging the phone with the Warp Charge 30 charger you can charge the phone from 0 – 100% in an hour and 20 minutes.

However, if you decide to charge the phone with the USB-C adapter then it will take a bit longer to charge.

OnePlus 7 Pro Performance:

The 8GB and 12GB of RAM variants of the phone are extremely fast and responsive, they are among the fastest Android Phones that are currently available.

The tagline for this phone is “Go beyond speed” OnePlus did a great job making this phone fast and responsive.

The speed is due to the amount of RAM the phone possesses as well as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor.

Needless to say, the phone does not slow down when multi-tasking and the 8GB variant should be fast enough for most smartphone users.

If you’re someone who uses your phone for extended periods of time you should know that OnePlus has implemented a 10-layer liquid cooling system.

This is located below the glass hood and it will prevent the phone from overheating when it’s being used for extended periods of time.

The OnePlus 7 Pro is the ideal phone for avid gamers, it’s also the first phone in the world that offers UFS 3.0 storage. This means that it offers faster read and write speeds.

My Final Thought:

OnePlus smartphones continue to improve with the release of every phone. The display screen, the battery life, and the speed and responsiveness of this phone are amazing.

If you’re looking for a premium phone at a more affordable price you should consider getting the OnePlus 7 Pro.
