The iPhone X comes equipped with the A11 Bionic chip with 64-bit architecture, neural engine, and an embedded M11 motion coprocessor. The primary camera is a 12MP camera and the front-facing camera is a 7MP camera.
iPhone X Software:
The removal of the Home button has changed the way iOS 11 works. The Home button on a phone plays such a big role in the way the user interacts with it. As a result of the Home button being removed, you have to learn lots of new gestures to perform the different tasks in which the home button was used for.
Learning The New Gestures On The iPhone X:
To access the Home screen you must swipe from the bottom of the display screen to the top. To access the multitasking menu, you must swipe and hold. You no longer have the ability to swipe apps away, you must press and then tap the X icon.
If you would like to switch apps you can do it by swiping the bottom of the display screen. Some of the other features and functionalities that required the Home button have been refined and you can access them via the lock button on the side of the phone.
To access emergency services you can do this by rapidly tapping the lock button. To access Apple Pay you can do this by double tapping the lock button. To capture a screenshot you must press the volume down button and the lock button together.
If you would like to turn the phone off you can do so by performing a long press of the volume down button and the lock button.
If you miss having the Home button on this phone and you would prefer not to use the new gestures. There’s a solution, Phone Arena has discovered a way to create a virtual home button on the iPhone X.
iPhone X Will Keep The Contents Of Your Notifications Private:
As a result of the Face ID feature, the iPhone X knows when the owner is looking at the display screen. When you receive notifications the phone will hide your notifications until you look at the display screen.
If someone else picks up the phone and looks at the display screen, they will only see the list of apps that have your notifications. The Face ID feature can tell when someone else is looking at the display screen and the actual content of the notifications will remain hidden until you look at the display screen.
There’s a bug in the software that Apple needs to fix. When the screen is locked you can access torch and camera, however, they do not disappear when you receive notifications. Things become a bit messy as a result of this, hopefully, Apple will solve this issue when they update the software.
Animoji Is An iPhone X Exclusive Feature:
One of the new features on the iPhone X is Animoji. Animoji is an animated emoji, this feature is exclusive to this phone as a result of the front-facing True Depth Camera which it uses for facial recognition. This feature works by creating thousands of data points to convert your facial expression into an Animoji.
When creating an Animoji the more animated your facial expressions are the more it will show in the Animoji. For example, if you’re going to open your mouth, you should commit to it and open your mouth as wide as you can and the character will do the same. However, each character has its own set of unique characteristics.
The rest of the software that’s on the iPhone X is the same as the software you’ll find on any other iPhone. Apple did a great job with the software on this phone but I think they can do more things to utilize the extra space on the display screen.
iPhone X Performance:
The iPhone X is powered by the A11 Bionic chip, which makes the phone extremely fast and responsive. This phone runs on the iOS 11 operating system and it has 3GB of RAM.
The A11 Bionic is a six-core processor, there are four low-power cores and two high-power cores. This phone works very efficiently, whether you’re watching videos or playing video games there is absolutely no lag, the phone will not slow down.
The iPhone X has built-in stereo speakers which are located at the top of the phone. Directly above the display screen and there are another set of speakers below the display screen at the bottom edge of the phone.
The sound quality of these speakers are great, these speakers can get extremely loud when you turn up the volume. The sound quality never changes, even when you crank the volume all the way up.
iPhone X Battery Life:
The iPhone X will last through 1 day of moderate use, it’s okay but it’s not great by any means. When Apple introduced the iPhone X they seemed a bit modest when speaking about the battery life. They stated that it will deliver 2 more hours than the iPhone 7 did.
The iPhone X supports wireless charging, this phone uses the open Qi charging standard, this is also present on the Samsung Galaxy S8. As a result of this, you can charge the iPhone X on a variety of compatible charging pads.
Apple is expected to release their own charging pad in the near future which will be called “AirPower”. However, until this happens they recommend using a Mophie or Belkin pad.
Although this phone supports fast charging it does not come with any accessories that will allow you to do this. The charger that comes with this phone is the same 5W wall plug charger that all the previous iPhones came with.
If you would like to use a form of fast charging to charge the iPhone X you will have to buy a MacBook USB-C plug and USB-C-to-Lightning cable or an iPad charger.
My Final Thought:
As I stated earlier, I think it was a bit risky for Apple to redesign the iPhone X and to give it an entirely new look and feel. But it worked out well because I think Apple did a great job with this phone. However, it has its strengths and weaknesses as any other phone does.
Many iPhone enthusiasts complained about the previous iPhones. They wanted to see more innovation and creativity from one model to another, I think all those people will be happy with the iPhone X. If you’ve never had an iPhone before but you’ve always wanted one, you should consider getting this phone.
The iPhone X is available in silver and space grey. Please let me know your thoughts about the iPhone X in the comment section below.
