Apple has resurrected the iPhone SE in 2020, in this iPhone SE 2020 review I will tell you why this is one of the best mid-range phones that’s currently on the market.
iPhone SE 2020 Introduction:
The iPhone SE 2020 is a mid-range iPhone which was released at a critical time during the lockdown while many people across the globe are unemployed.
Apple managed to keep the production cost down on this iPhone by using the iPhone body of the iPhone 8.
Nevertheless, the iPhone SE 2020 is fast and responsive and it comes equipped with Apple’s latest apps.
iPhone SE 2020 Design:
Apple has revamped the iPhone SE and placed it in the body of the iPhone 8. The iPhone SE 2020 fits into the iPhone 8 cases.
Even though this iPhone isn’t as small as the original iPhone SE, it’s the smallest premium phone that’s currently on the market.
The iPhone SE 2020 does not have a 3.5mm headphone jack but it has a silent switch, rounded corners, a Lightning port, a small camera bump, and thick bezels on the top and the bottom of the display screen.
The thick bezels make the iPhone SE 2020 look a bit outdated, nevertheless, this iPhone features the typical iPhone glass sandwich which provides decent traction in your hands and it has an IP67 dust and water resistance rating.
The new iPhone comes in three different color variants which include white, black, and red. There are three storage variants which include the 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB models.
The dimensions of the iPhone SE 2020 are 138 x 67 x 7.3 mm and it weighs 5.22 oz. This is a small phone which was released at a time when bigger phones are extremely popular among smartphone users.
iPhone SE 2020 Camera:
The iPhone SE 2020 cameras are the same cameras that are present on the iPhone 8 which works in conjunction with some A13 software enhancements.
The primary camera is a 12MP camera and a 7MP selfie camera, the primary camera can shoot stabilized 4K video and the selfie camera shoots video at 1080p resolution, video quality is great on the iPhone SE 2020.
The A13 processor has enhanced the portrait mode and it has improved the HDR performance.
When taking photos in a well-lit setting the photo quality is good, it’s comparable to that of a standard photo taken with the iPhone 11.
The selfie camera on the iPhone SE 2020 is a 7MP camera that takes decent photos and this camera is also capable of shooting 4K and slow-mo videos.
The selfie camera on this iPhone isn’t bad but photos taken with the iPhone 11 are slightly sharper.
The iPhone SE 2020 does not have a Night Mode feature, as a result of this, the quality of the photos taken in a darker setting is not up to par with that of the iPhone 11.
Portrait mode on the iPhone SE 2020 isn’t as robust as that of the dual-camera iPhones. With the dual-camera iPhones, you can easily apply the bokeh effect to anything.
However, the iPhone SE 2020 can only apply the bokeh effect to a person’s face.
iPhone SE 2020 Display Screen:
The iPhone SE 2020 features the same display screen that’s present on the iPhone 8. This display screen has some nice True Tone enhancements and it supports a wide color gamut.
This iPhone features a 4.7-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD display screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1334 x 750 pixels and a pixel density of 326ppi which debuted on the iPhone 4 which was released in 2010.
The pixel density on the iPhone changed to Super Retina 458ppi when the iPhone X was released.
The 4.7-inch display screen is made from Corning Gorilla Glass (it’s a custom version) the display screen also has an oleophobic coating which reduces smudges.
The Night Shift blue light filter and the TrueTone color-correction adjustments are available on the iPhone SE 2020.
Apple has stated that this display screen is capable of displaying Dolby Vision and HDR10 content.
This is due to the wide color gamut, the contrast, and the brightness of the display screen. The maximum brightness of this display screen is 670 nits so this is not a very bright display screen.
iPhone SE 2020 Performance:
The iPhone SE 2020 runs on the Apple A13 processor which is one of the fastest processors on the market today.
This iPhone is very fast and responsive and it’s the fastest phone on the market within its price range and it’s built to last.
I think it’s great that Apple made such a nice iPhone for people who are on a budget.
The iPhone SE 2020 runs on the iOS 13 operating system which comes with one free year of Apple TV+.
The iPhone SE 2020 does not have a Face ID feature, instead, it has Apple’s 2nd generation touch ID which is very fast and accurate.
iPhone SE 2020 Battery Life:
The iPhone SE 2020 is powered by a 1,821mAh battery, it’s not the best, this iPhone will last a little under one day of moderate usage on a single charge.
Charging the iPhone SE 2020 with the 5W charger from 0 to 100% takes 2 hours and 30 minutes, that’s extremely long but I guess this was necessary to keep the cost of this iPhone down.
However, if you charge the iPhone SE 2020 with the 18W charger it takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes to charge from 0 to 100%. So if you plan on getting this iPhone it would be beneficial to get the 18W charger.
It would have been nice if this iPhone had a more powerful battery.
My Final Thought On The iPhone SE 2020:
As the global economy continues its downward spiral and the unemployment rate continues to rise, it’s likely that mid-range phones such as the iPhone SE 2020 will become more popular among avid smartphone users.
Likewise, the expensive flagship phones that sell for over $1,000 will become less popular the longer this crisis goes on.
The iPhone SE 2020 came at the perfect time and it’s on sale for $399, this iPhone offers quite a bit of value for a smartphone in this price range.
The iPhone SE 2020 is a great upgrade to anyone who has an iPhone 7 or an earlier version of the iPhone. This iPhone would be ideal for anyone who is looking for a decent phone in 2020 without breaking the bank.
However, if you would like a phone with great battery life, a big display screen, and night mode, then you should consider getting a different phone.
