Apple has recently released the new iPhone 11 Pro along with its siblings the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro Max. In this iPhone 11 Pro review, I will tell you just about everything you need to know about this phone.

iPhone 11 Pro Review

iPhone 11 Pro

4.7
Battery Life 4.5
Camera 5.0
Software 4.5
Hardware 4.5
Performance 5.0

Pros

  • Great cameras
  • Decent battery life
  • Very fast and responsive

Cons

  • Very expensive

The iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max have more features and functionalities than that of their cheaper sibling the iPhone 11.

The iPhone 11 Pro is a premium phone which features a triple camera setup at the back of the phone.

This iPhone has a lot to offer but it may not be the best iPhone for all iPhone users.

iPhone 11 Pro Design:

  • IP68 water resistance rating so the phone can be submerged in 4m for up to 30 minutes
  • Triple camera setup at the back of the phone

The iPhone 11 Pro is the successor to the iPhone XS. They have a very similar look and feel but the cameras on this iPhone really set it apart from its predecessor.

Both phones have the same 5.8-inch OLED display screen, however, the display screen has been improved on this iPhone. Both phones have a stainless-steel chassis and a glass back.

Apple says that the glass on the back panel is tougher, and it can withstand a bit more.

Nevertheless, the glass on the back panel has a new camera setup which distinguishes it from its predecessor and the surface does not reflect as much because it has a matte frosted finish.

The most obvious design change is that a third camera has been added on the back of the phone.

These cameras have a small camera bump and each camera has its own lens frame.

The iPhone 11 Pro has four color variants which include Gold, Silver, and Space Grey the iPhone XS is also available in these colors.

The fourth color variant is Midnight Green, this is a nice addition which gives the buyers more options to choose from.

While there are quite a few similarities in the design of the iPhone 11 Pro and its predecessor there are also some noticeable differences.

The text on the back of the phone which said “iPhone” has been removed from the back of the phone and the logo has been moved to the center.

Nevertheless, the Lighting port is still available but Apple has adopted a USB-C port from the iPad Pro.

The iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max have three internal storage variants which include, 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB of non-expandable internal storage and 4GB of RAM.

Display Screen:

  • Super Retina XDR
  • 5.8-inch OLED display screen
  • Haptic Touch is prominent

The iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone XS both have 5.8-inch display screens so you’re probably thinking that it’s the same display screen.

However, quite a few things have been upgraded, nevertheless, this is a slightly smaller display screen than that of the iPhone 11.

This display screen features a wide color gamut, it supports True Tone, and the peak brightness goes up to 1,200 nits.

This is a bright display screen which works well for high dynamic range (HDR) video playback and a contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1 that’s two times more than the iPhone XS.

Thus the reason why Apple is referring to this display screen as a Super Retina XDR OLED display screen.

If you compare the display screens on previous iPhone models to this one you will notice the difference.

Everything looks rich and vivid on this display screen, the graphics in the video games look amazing and the colors are vibrant.

So whether playing video games or watching movies you will have an immersive experience.

The bezels have been getting smaller on quite a few of the newer Android phones, however, Apple has not adopted this.

The 3D Touch feature has been removed from the iPhone XR because Apple no longer has support from the developers.

As a result of this, all the iPhone 11 models have transitioned to Haptic Touch instead. This adds some new features and functionalities to the iPhone.

You can now long-press on the settings icon to choose a Bluetooth device or a Wi-Fi network.

iPhone 11 Pro Processor:

  • A13 Bionic processor
  • Spatial audio and Dolby Atmos support
  • 18W Fast charger included
  • U1 chip

The 2019 iPhones come equipped with the A13 Bionic processor. This is the successor to the A12 Bionic from the iPhone XS.

The A13 Bionic processor is faster and more responsive than that of its predecessor. Apps load faster and everything is a little smoother when multi-tasking.

However, this is what normally happens when a new iPhone is released. It would have been disappointing if the A13 Bionic processor was not faster than the A12 Bionic.

This is something that all major smartphone manufacturers strive for whenever they release a new phone.

The battery life has been significantly improved from that of its predecessor. The battery on the iPhone 11 Pro will last for over one day of moderate use.

The U1 chip is another new addition, this chip uses ultra-wideband technology for spatial awareness.

As a result of this, the AirDrop feature will be better with directionally aware suggestions.

Currently, this chip is only used in the iPhones in the iPhone 11 line, nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what Apple does with this in the future.

This iPhone features fast charging which is similar to what the iPhone XS has.

However, an 18W charger is included in the box so you can enjoy fast charging technology without having to spend additional money.

Cameras:

iPhone 11 Pro Cameras

  • New triple camera setup
  • New ultra-wide lens
  • New Night Mode

The iPhone 11 Pro features a triple camera setup which is located at the back of the phone. These cameras include a 12MP regular wide camera, a 12MP 2x zoom camera (Telephoto), and a 12MP ultra-wide camera.

The wide camera and the telephoto camera on this iPhone are the same as the iPhone XS.

However, the new ultra-wide camera gives you the ability to squeeze much more into the photos.

This is the main difference between this iPhone and the standard iPhone 11. When the camera app is opened it gives you a preview of what the photo would look like if you decided to switch to a different camera.

Previously you had the ability to change from zoom to wide and vice versa but now you can also choose the ultra-wide.

There have also been some improvements to the Portrait mode as well. The photos on the phone look sharp with lots of detail, it’s much better than last year’s iPhones.

Night Mode:

A new Night Mode feature has been introduced, this was probably implemented as a result of the success that Google has had with its night sight feature.

Night Modes does a great job when taking photos in a darker setting. This feature is 100% automatic, the camera software makes all the decisions.

Apple’s Night Mode feature works by using AI to determine that a photo is being taken in a darker setting and the software in the iPhone will turn on and make the necessary adjustments to ensure that you get the absolute best photo.

If you’re taking a photo in a well-lit setting where Night Mode is not needed, it will not turn on. This works in a different manner from the Night Mode that’s available on other phones.

The Night Mode feature works well, however, the only drawback is the fact that you cannot use the ultra-wide camera with this feature.

Recording Video:

When recording video you can shoot up to 4K videos at 60fps with HDR support. There are some new video editing features in iOS 13.

The overall quality of the videos is great and the cinematic stabilization in conjunction with the extended dynamic range produces great results.
